Duties and Responsibilities: They perform eye surgery and treat eye diseases. Ophthalmologists also examine eyes and prescribe contact lenses and glasses. 

Salary: $300,000 

Education:  4-year Doctor of Medicine program and a 3-year ophthalmology residency in a hospital. 

Demand for this profession: An ophthalmologist is a medical doctor or an osteopathic doctor  who specializes in eye and vision care.
